Itll sound (and look) pretty good in here. Hard to believe that these are the first (and only) nice pieces of audio equipment Ive ever owned - the Sony receiver and cd player (anybody use those anymore?) date back to sophomore year of college - thats 1993 - and the Bose cube speaker system goes back to 1997 when my brother was a salesman there and hooked me up. The iPod docking station, I figure, is a necessary nod to a more modern moment...

Many people are beginning to keep their tools and lawn equipment in wooden storage sheds to keep them out of the weather and rain, to keep them out of sight so that the yard looks nice and neat, and to have a place dedicated for tools when the garage or workshop isnt big enough for everything. Another great use for wooden storage sheds is storing wood for your wood-burning stove which keeps the house warm in the winter. If this is the case, make sure that the shed isnt too far from the house because you dont want to have to walk a mile with a load of wood during a snowstorm! Also make sure that the shed is weatherproof - wet wood wont be any use to you.

In most areas, sheds under a certain size can simply be built however you like without having to go through the building permit process. If you live in the country, you are probably not subject to building permits anyway. Sheds are often built like small houses, but they may eliminate components like insulation which add to the cost and are not necessary for this application. It takes significant carpentry experience to build wooden storage sheds. If you are not an experienced builder, it may be more productive (and safe!) to buy a kit or even a finished shed from a home and garden store.

Sheds can also be an easier place to store rarely used possessions than an attic or basement because you dont need to go up the ladder or down the stairs. If you do store household possessions here, make sure that your storage shed is truly weatherproof or that you are storing your stuff in sealed boxes. Many wooden storage sheds will have a roof just like a house to keep out the elements.

Also consider the layout of your yard and property and the ideal location of your new shed. If you have a smaller piece of property, you may need to find wooden storage sheds which are attractive or find a way to hide them behind a bush. If you have a larger lot, you can probably put the shed out of view and not really care what it looks like. Also be careful that youre not putting tools far away from where they will be used: If the lawn mower is stored far away from the lawn, odds are that you may be too lazy to put it away, or even to pull it out to mow the lawn!
